What to Know

Solitude Float Trips Private Boats for a Scenic Cruise

This is a guided tour with a private guide and only your group.

If you’re arranging a float trip for a group or our launch times don’t fit into your day’s schedule, consider a private Grand Teton scenic float trip. When you book a private boat, you’ll be able to choose a launch time that works for you. Simply give us a call for reservations and we can discuss private boat availability and potential launch times.

Another benefit of a private float trip is the ability to customize the trip to focus on any special interests you and your group may have. Our tour guides have extensive knowledge on a variety of subjects ranging from local history, conservation, wildlife, hiking trails, and geology. If you’re arranging a fun tour for bird-watchers, we can discuss local birds; for history enthusiasts, we’ll share all the legends and lore of Jackson Hole. Groups of scouts enjoy learning about the Snake River ecosystem and steps they can take to conserve this unspoiled area of Wyoming.

A private Jackson Hole river trip gives you and your group the opportunity to enjoy the stunning scenery in Grand Teton National Park with a tour that fits into your schedule and interests. You’ll enjoy and explore a 10 mile float trip on the Snake River from Tripadvisor’s top-rated provider of Grand Teton National Park tours.

Launch times can be arranged to fit your day’s schedule and the scenic cruise can be customized to specifically focus on any special interests which you and your group may have. Please call in advance to discuss the options available to you when you schedule a private boat.

Why Choose Solitude Float Trips in Jackson Hole

Our Grand Teton scenic float trips are authorized by the National Park Service to float 100% inside Grand Teton National Park along the Snake River – very few outfitters hold permits for Grand Teton National Park float trips, and Solitude Float Trips is honored to be one of them.

Our family-owned business puts guest experience at the forefront, focusing on creating the best possible experience for each visitor rather than maximizing the number of Snake River float trips we run each day. The goal of Solitude Scenic Float Trips is to help you create lasting memories and appreciate the beauty of the Grand Tetons and Snake River as much as we do.

About Our Grand Teton National Park Float Trips on Snake River

We’ve chosen a prime section of the Snake River for our float trips, launching at Deadman’s Bar, below the scenic Snake River Overlook. During your two-hour float trip, you’ll travel down a smooth stretch of the river that flows through both forested and open areas in Grand Teton National Park. You’ll see some of the most majestic peaks of the Teton Range and an abundance of local wildlife.

Unlike a whitewater rafting expedition, a float trip goes at a slower pace, so it’s perfect for unwinding, relaxing, and reconnecting with your family or group. Our guides are consummate professionals who come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all share a passion for conservation, a deep love of nature, and knowledge about the Snake River, Jackson Hole, and Grand Teton National Park. Bring a camera or binoculars to ensure that you don’t miss a thing during your trip—we’ll help you spot bald eagles, moose, bears, elk, and other wildlife that the area is famous for.

FAQ’s

A private scenic float trip reserves an entire boat just for your group (usually 2–12 people), offering:

  • Privacy and personalized pacing
  • Dedicated guide commentary
  • Enhanced amenities: private cooler with ice
  • Flexible timing (morning, midday, late afternoon)

The private scenic float typically takes 2-3 hours.  From the time you meet your guide at Moose, WY, drive to the put-in, float 10 river miles, and end back at your vehicle, the exact time will vary with water levels throughout the season, but you can expect to block out 2-3 hours of your time for this excursion.

The season runs from mid May to late September.  Private scenic floats are offered every day of the season at multiple times during the day.

When you book a private boat, you reserve the entire boat for up to 12 people at a flat rate.  Our private boats run $1200 for the boat plus any applicable fees.  This rate does not include guide gratuity, which you can add at the time of booking, or pay in cash, if you choose to do so.

Children 5 years of age and older (and a minimum of 50lbs) may participate on our scenic floats.  Lifejackets are required for everyone on the raft and those lifejackets have a 50lb minumum requirement.  Your guide will give you a safety briefing at the beginning of the tour.  Rest assured, your guides have all the necessary certifications and experience to provide a quality tour that meets your expectations.

Whether you select a private float or a public float, the wildlife along the snake river can be seen throughout the season.  Osprey, bald eagles, and other birdlife can be visible from the river as you float.  Some lucky guests may spot larger fauna like moose, elk, or a bear.  Playful otters sometimes make an appearance, and signs of beavers can be seen, even if the beavers themselves remain elusive.

  • sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses
  • reusable water bottle and snacks, if needed
  • camera and binoculars, optional
  • light jacket, or rain jacket (whatever is appropriate for the weather)
  • a small daypack to hold your personal items (you can store this in the raft, at your feet)

We have a central meeting location for all our guests.  There is a float trip meeting point near Grand Teton Park Headquarters, in Moose, WY.  Guests may park their vehicle here, and meet their guide (and shuttle) to head to the put-in in our company vehicle.  Check your confirmation email for a map pin that you can use with your GPS.  Your scenic float trip will end back at the parking location, so you’ll be returned directly to your vehicle at the end of the tour.

Our scenic floats in Grand Teton National Park tend to sell out.  We have a restricted number of seats for each departure, and this is a popular activity to do in the park.  Once your vacation dates are set, we recommend booking your scenic float.  You can book online or you can book over the phone with our reservation team.

If you plan on traveling in May or June, you can expect higher water levels and slightly colder water temperatures.  However, the Teton Range is a spectacular backdrop, with wildflowers emerging at the valley floor and contrasted snow covered peaks towering above the valley.  July and August are usually warmer months, but also busier on the river and in the park in general.  Plan for earlier mornings or evenings for a little respite from a hot day.  September brings vibrant fall colors to the landscape and makes a slow march to shorter days and the crisp mountain air of the fall season.  Crowds dissipate and wildlife starts to move, in preparation for winter.

When you book a private tour, you have the boat and the guide all to yourself.  These tours allow for greater personalization of the tour itself, the content, and the pace.  For private tours, we bring a small cooler with ice, in order to allow you to bring your favorite beverages of choice, and keep them cool during your float.  Private floats are ideal for multi-generational families traveling together, groups of friends, couples, professional colleagues, or anyone who wants to explore the Snake River with a more tailored experience.
